Product Review: Food for Lovers

Food for Lovers has create a vegan queso that’s soy free, nut free, fat free, cholesterol free, has over 50% less sodium than regular queso.

What is Vegan Queso?

Our main ingredient is nutritional yeast. It looks a bit like flour but smells like cheese (in a good way). It’s completely vegan and packed with Vitamin B. It’s been a vegan go-to ingredient probably since the start of vegan cooking. We use this in addition to spices, tomatoes and green chiles to create an incredibly creamy, delightfully spicy dip. You’ll understand everything you need to know about TexMex food after your first bite.

How do you warm it up?

Simply scoop some into a bowl and microwave for 1-2 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds. Or, scoop some into a small pot and slowly warm up queso over low heat. It’ll warm up quickly so stay close by!

What will I do with it?

It’s summer! All you need is a bag of chips, a refreshing fruit drink (or beer) and a bowl of vegan queso.
Here are some other ideas:

• Fold warm queso into a wrap with fresh tomatoes and avocado with lots of fresh cracked pepper

• Pour over: enchiladas, tamales, taco salad, beans, scramble, potatoes, steamed broccoli, fideo, picadillo, tacos, greens, tostadas, casseroles of all kinds, etc.

Ingredients: Water, Tomatoes, Green Chili Peppers, Unbleached Flour, Nutritional Yeast, Salt, Distilled Vinegar, Mustard Seed, Citric Acid, Calcium Chloride & Spice. Contains Wheat.” *

I enjoyed this queso; I thought that the consistency was great and saucy – perfect for pouring over nachos or tacos or just dipping pretzels or veggies into. I thought the flavor was good but I would have liked it to have more of a cheezy flavor and more spice and a little less vinegar.  However I found that the flavor could easily be enhanced with hot sauce and/or salsa.  Like I used it to dip tortilla chips, pretzels and veggies; I used as a sauce on my seitan chorizo tacos below and I also used it with pasta, beans and veggies.
